Great food! Glad that they transformed into this all-you-can-eat style, it’s perfect for someone who likes plenty of dishes with a smaller stomach. Everything tastes so GOOD! I put this on my to-go list before I leave SD, will miss here!

If you are looking for a casual, no-frills meal in Mira Mesa, Shanghai Cuisine offers a unique setup. Here is the breakdown of the experience: • The Ordering Process: It has a bit of a nostalgic "school cafeteria" vibe. You walk up to the counter and pick out your selections from what’s available, which makes for a quick start to the meal. • The Food: They offer a wide variety of selections. In terms of quality, it’s decent—it doesn't necessarily blow other high-end dim sum spots out of the water, but it's fair when you consider the price point. • AYCE & Menu Items: You can order extra items off the menu as part of the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) deal. However, be prepared to wait; these items tend to take a long time to come out from the kitchen. • Service: The servers are very friendly and welcoming, which makes the wait for the menu items a bit more bearable. Verdict: A solid choice for a filling, affordable meal if you aren't in a massive rush for the made-to-order dishes!

A Shanghai-style home cooking small-plate buffet. We went on a Sunday and it was 28 per person. The selection is rich and varied, with dishes stir-fried fresh and served hot. Spicy dishes are optional and can be chosen based on your preference. There are also dim sum, soy milk, and sweet rice wine glutinous rice balls available. New dishes keep coming out throughout the meal — not everything is offered at the same time — which makes it fun to try different items. Overall, it’s great value for the price and definitely a place you could come back to often.

My husband and I went on the first Saturday lunch when they were still transitioning the new business before they raised prices from $25 to $29. Overall we thought the price was fair with quality and variety at the lower price. The quality and variety changed a lot throughout the time we were there so you will need to stalk the buffet area often to find various different items. A lot of the food was not hot which we weren’t fans of. We were disappointed by all the steamed dumplings. XLB had no soup, hargow were all broke apart, other dumplings cold. My favorite item was the pork hock which was nice and tender. The Taiwanese beef soup that you order from the menu was hot and tasty. Overall, they were probably in soft opening and working out the kinks so I may go back and try again another Saturday lunch. Highly recommend going with a group so you can try more things because the portion sizes are too big to sample “all you can eat”.
